Such a lovely and inspirational wedding celebration was recently shared with us! We sat down with Kaelan Ohm and chatted all the romantic details surrounding her and Reuben's day.
"Our wedding was held in Calgary, Alberta at the Hart House, an old brick heritage mansion that was owned by the Hart family (Brett and Owen Hart were WWF wrestlers). The property is stunning with a large yard on either side of the house, which allowed for us to hold the ceremony and reception at the same location."
"There are so many memorable moments from the day. Our first dance was really special, set to Phosphorescent’s “Song for Zula” which is from one of the first albums that we connected to as a couple. We had friends dance around us with giant sparklers which made for a pretty magical moment."
"For us, the ceremony was beautiful and sacred and a true representation of our love and connection to one another. Our officiant Nadine changed the way we viewed what a wedding ceremony could be and from our first meeting we knew that it was going to be very special. The whole day exceeded our expectations and we both have a deep appreciation for every moment shared with our closest family and friends."
"So many people are to thank for our wedding turning out the way it did. It was a serious labour of love. We had the week at the house to start building and decorating which we know is a very rare thing to have. The day was planned and designed by the two of us."
"Creating and coordinating are what we do for a living so it felt natural to do it ourselves. Reuben and his older brother built the stage and hung the alter that I made. The succulents were potted and wild flowers picked by myself and my sisters and bridesmaids. Reuben’s younger brother provided live music during the ceremony, the cake was made by my cousin Sidney (which might have been the most amazing cake anyone had ever seen) and the live music was provided by both of us and some of our very good friends and guests. The rest of the decor was made by myself and my maid of honour. All of the food and wine (and the location) was coordinated and made possible by our very good friend Devin at Teatro restaurant in Calgary. He was a huge part of the day and we absolutely could not have done it without him. We had the most delicious farm to table dinner created on site by a small team from Teatro restaurant, which left guests full of wild river salmon, roasted vegetables and wild mushroom risotto (one of Teatro’s specialties)."
"Last but not least, Loversland was responsible for my incredible Rue de Seine dress and vintage handmade crown. Reuben’s suit was chosen and customized from Sydney’s in Toronto."
"Post wedding life?!… never a dull moment for us it seems. Marriage is a beautiful beast. We are both musicians and artists, often on the road touring with Reuben’s band Reuben and the Dark, so we spend a lot of time together but try to make sure that we have down time to appreciate stillness and the little moments. This usually involves traveling somewhere on the ocean after a tour. Life is good and we’re learning more about each other every day."
